Bagel
A bagel is a bread product, traditionally shaped by hand into the form of a ring from yeasted wheat dough, roughly hand-sized, which is first boiled for a short time in water and then baked. The result is a dense, chewy, doughy interior with a browned and sometimes crisp exterior. Bagels are often topped with seeds baked on the outer crust, with the traditional ones being poppy or sesame seeds. Bagels have become a popular bread product in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, especially in cities with large Jewish populations, many with different ways of making bagels.
Le bagel ou beguel (du yiddish "beygl") est un rouleau en forme d'anneau, à la texture très ferme, fait d'une pâte au levain naturel plongé brièvement dans l'eau bouillante avant d'être passé au four. C'est le pain traditionnel que l'on retrouve dans tous les pays où vit une communauté juive ashkénaze. Ces petits pains en forme d'anneaux ont suivi les immigrants aux États-Unis et au Canada où ils sont servis garnis de fromage, de saumon fumé ou d'autres ingrédients selon leur disponibilité et l'imagination du cuisinie
